A Man and His Words - Honor
“I dare say, the reason why we may dishonor men by virtue of our past experiences with them is because, as people, it is exceedingly difficult for us to separate men from their words.”
Words carry weight. They can heal, wound, affirm, diminish, inspire, or discourage. And because words proceed from people, we often attach them permanently to the person who spoke them.
That becomes dangerous when one statement, one difficult conversation, or one painful season becomes the permanent definition of someone in our minds.
People are often more complex than the words they spoke in one moment. A person can speak from pain and later heal. They can speak from ignorance and later grow in wisdom. They can act immaturely and later become more disciplined. If we refuse to make room for growth, we imprison people in versions of themselves that may no longer exist.
This is where dishonor can quietly begin.
